Fine of £40,000 for Norfolk landlord
A landlord and their property company in Breckland, Norfolk, is facing enforcement action and a fine of £40,000 after failing to respond to a year-old improvement notice on an unsafe property. The council was forced to issue a £20,000 fine to the landlord company and £20,000 to the property company’s director.
The property manager was given ample time to complete the repairs, but following further inspection it was deemed that they had not made adequate progress on making the property safe, which had a blocked fire escape, damaged fire doors, dangerous electrics and broken and rotten windows.
Hackney landlord hit with rent repayment order exceeding £16,000
A Hackney-based landlord has failed to convince a court that stress and financial difficulties excused her from paying a rent repayment order. The property sat within the boroughs’ additional licensing scheme but did not have a licence. The four tenants will now receive £16,191 after a First Tier Property Tribunal ruled in their favour.
Luton landlord faces £15,000 sanction having no learnt from previous £20,000 fine
A landlord in Luton has been fined more than £15,000 after severe safety issues were found at their property, including rotting floorboards, mould and fire safety issues. The repeat offender has been handed a £10,800 fine and ordered to pay £4,888 costs and a victim surcharge, having previously paid a fine of £20,000 for similar offences in 2021.
