Scope

Which licence types Kamma applies for

Three licence types, any council in the UK. If you are not sure which one a property needs, check it before instructing us.

Mandatory HMO licence applications

For a house in multiple occupation with five or more occupiers forming two or more households. Mandatory HMO licensing is statutory, so it applies in every council area: 380 mandatory schemes are recorded across 359 councils.

Additional HMO licence applications

A council extension of HMO licensing to smaller HMOs, commonly three or four occupiers. 66 additional schemes are in force.

Selective licence applications

Applies to privately rented homes inside a designated area whether or not the property is an HMO. 105 selective schemes are in force.

What we do not apply for

Planning permission, including Article 4 prior approval for a change of use, and building control. Those belong with a planning consultant rather than with us.

Not sure whether a property needs a licence at all? Start with the property licence checker, or read the property licence guide for the council the property sits in.
